5FM Station Manager Leaving The Station
5FM is sad to confirm the resignation of station manager, Aisha Mohamed. Appointed to the position at the age of 29, breaking records for the youngest station manager5FMhas ever had, Mohamed is and was a pioneer in the greater steps of moving the brand forward. Her long and enduring history at5FMfirst started when she joined the station’s marketing team from 2003 to 2008. Mohamed worked her way up as the marketing manager, before accepting an offer to work for MTV Networks Africa as marketing manager for MTV Base, MTV Europe in Africa, VH1 and Nickelodeon. She then returned to5FMin 2010 as the station manager, which entailed looking after a team of over sixty on-air talent, management, operational and behind-the-scenes staff. Under Mohamed’s careful guidance, vision and continued contribution as first, marketing manager and then station manager;5FMgrew from strength to strength and that was reflected in its extraordinary cross-cultural listenership appeal. The station also experienced a growth by over a million new loyal listeners to its highest audience to date of 2.355 million listeners in 2011. Mohamed was instrumental in rolling out the 2010 FIFA World Cup programming on5FM; the around-the-clock programming and coverage of the death of former president Nelson Mandela as well as the strategic delivery of a fresh youthful offering in the stations content and line-up year-on-year.5FMhas won a variety of prestigious awards locally and has been nominated for a number of awards internationally during this time. Mohamed says, “5FMis a brand that I am truly passionate about. I’ve been blessed over the last four years to have held the title of station manager. The brand remains dynamic and competitive. I have had many amazing experiences with the station, and have had the opportunity to work with some extraordinary people. Whilst I leave the station, the brand will always remain in my heart. It has been an exceptionally rewarding challenge and I look forward to the next chapter in my career at the SABC. ” Mohamed leaves5FMto grow within the SABC stable for a senior position within the commercial portfolio at SABC TV. The5FMteam wishes her the very best in her new role
